Privacy & Cookies Policy

We are a small volunteer-run village magazine and we keep data collection to the absolute minimum. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have under UK data protection law.

Who we are

What's On in Wing is published monthly by What's On Publishing CIC, 12 Overstone Close, Wing, Leighton Buzzard, England, LU7 0TE. Registered number 14178082.

For the purposes of the UK GDPR we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at admin@whatsoninwing.info.

The information we collect

Information you give us. When you use a form on this site — the contact form, an advertising enquiry or an article submission — we collect your name, email address, any phone number you choose to give, and the content of your message or article.

Technical information. Our hosting provider records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to keep the site secure and available. If you allow analytics cookies, we also collect aggregated, non-identifying statistics about the pages you visit.

We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we never collect special category data.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

To reply to you and publish what you send in — our lawful basis is legitimate interests (responding to an enquiry you have made), or consent where you have asked us to print your article, photograph or listing.

To keep the website secure and working — legitimate interests.

To measure how the site is used — consent, given through the cookie banner and withdrawable at any time.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies (and equivalent technologies such as browser local storage) are small files stored on your device. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) we only set non-essential cookies once you have given consent. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key wow-cookie-consent so that we do not have to ask you on every visit — this record is strictly necessary and is never used for tracking.

  • Strictly necessary (always on)

Needed to make the site work — page navigation, form security and remembering your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off.

  • Preferences (optional — consent required)

Remember choices you make, such as the last issue you viewed or the trade directory category you opened.

  • Analytics (optional — consent required)

Help us count visits and see which pages villagers read most, so we can improve the magazine and this website.

  • Advertising (optional — consent required)

Used to measure interest in advertiser listings. We never sell your data or use cross-site advertising trackers.

You can change or withdraw your consent whenever you like: . You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may then behave unexpectedly.

Sharing and storage

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers who help us run this site and our email (for example our website host and email provider), all of whom act on our instructions. Where data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.

We keep enquiry emails for up to 24 months, submitted articles and listings for as long as we hold the magazine archive, and server logs for a short rolling period set by our host. Consent records are kept for 12 months, after which we will ask you again.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to be informed, to access a copy of your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to erasure, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email us and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever our practices change and will refresh the "last updated" date above. If we change the cookies we use, we will ask for your consent again.
